Iron Banner 2.0
So this week marked the first Iron Banner of Destiny 2.0 and I have to say I was not very impressed.
I belong to a clan of roughly 250 members (DoD Iron Orange) and the consensus amongst all of us is that Iron Banner did not deliver what Bungie had promised. I personally played about 80 matches over the week and I managed to get two of my three Guardians to level 5. Lag seemed to be better this time around, I only ran into a couple of people walking into walls, or teleporting titans. This made the experience much better and it was easier in my opinion to stay in and play for longer periods of time. Where my disappointment kicks in is with the rewards. Our illustrious team at Bungie released a weekly update that explained the new economics of Iron Banner and why Lord Saladin would be taking marks as opposed to glimmer.
“Drop rates have been increased and are intended to be the primary source of rewards from Iron Banner. If you don’t get what you’re hoping for, you have the option to visit Lord Saladin instead.”
In the 80 matches that I played I received the Iron Banner boots twice. That’s it! No Warlcok bond, Titan mark or pulse rifle. For the most part I was playing as a 300 light level Guardian and I did not receive a single piece of equipment or one weapon that I was able to use to infuse any of my current gear. While I completely understand that RNGesus is responsible for what drops and how often, I believe they may have missed the mark on increasing the drop rates. Did someone forget to turn that switch on Bungie?
I must say that, so far, I have been extremely impressed with the overhaul that Destiny received with the drop of the Taken King, but I fear that they may have lost a lot of players over the course of this Iron Banner. Many of my fellow clan mates live for Iron Banner and they stopped playing early in the week and went raiding instead or just didn’t play at all. Hopefully our friends at Bungie were paying attention to the chatter surrounding Iron Banner this time around and will fix it (as they often do)!
“Test yourself, Guardian.” –Lord Saladin
I sincerely hope that the team that is working on fixing yet another super exploit (unlimited Shadowshots) is not the same team that was responsible for this version of the Iron Banner. I would love nothing more than for Trials of Osiris to return this week with little to no errors. My two favorite things to do in Destiny are (were, until they fix it) Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris. Please, fix my guilty pleasures!
