Destiny 2: Forsaken – Review

Forsaken logo

Part 1 of who knows how many….

Once again Bungie has not disappointed me. When I first loaded in to the Forsaken I was blown away by the level of detail that had been put into the scene around me. I was quickly immersed into the Reef and once again I felt as if I was my Guardian. Now, I don’t know if it was just me or if they tweeked the interface with our Guardians a bit, but it felt…. amazing!

Once I got over what I was seeing and feeling, it was time to go kick some ass. I played through the story mission in about 4 hours, not bad for a campaign. On the way I got to experience some amazing new things. I am going to try and relay my experience without any spoilers!

I would also like to thank Activison for my copy of Destiny 2: Forsaken on PC.

Bow

The New Weapons System

One of the first blue engrams I got was a Sniper in my primary slot! Though not very practical, I ran double snipers for bit. It was fun and I can see challenges galore coming out of having this as an option. Then I remembered, as I was deleting a redundant weapon, random rolls! I quickly regretted not checking the stats on the shotgun that I just deleted, but C’est la vie.

Now the hunt is on. I am not going to pretend to know all of the perks and stats available for every gun, I have a guy with a spreadsheet for that (love you GreatDaemon), but I can tell you that I will be keeping my eye out for just the right roll on my primary Hand Cannon.

Then something amazing happened. I had almost forgotten that they added this to the game. I got my first bow! Lightning had just hit! I got chills, yes actual chills. At this point I knew that my son had also found his first bow as I heard him cry out in excitement. A smile crossed my face and I don’t know if it was because I found a bow first or that he had found such enjoyment over finding his.

I spent the better part of the story with that bow in my hands. I loved it. The only reason I stopped using it was the fact that, I need more power Jim! Of all the weapon types and all the weapons they have added to this game since D1, this is by far the best thing that they have done!

Oh ya, I almost forgot. They also added a section in your character for Collections. In which you can go and re-acquire any, non random roll, weapon. Thank you for clearing up my vault (if I ever get time to do so).

If I have a single complaint about the new weapons system, it would be that your once again need regional materials for infusion. I down right despise this, as I don’t have time to farm materials, I am hoping to find a spot to purchase materials somewhere in this giant world!

The New Director

Not that the Director itself is very interesting, however they did re-arrange things in there.

More to the point, they added things to do. There are now challenges for every day. In more than one spot. Every day when I log in there is another one of those glowing dots somewhere in the solar system. It’s likely going to start aggravating me that I am unable to always get rid of the dot, but that also means they have added enough content that as a hobby I should always have something to do. Let’s not forget that they brought back Bounties as well. Not only did they bring them back, they are EVERYWHERE! The only thing I am not crazy about is the expiration date on the Bounties, and that is only because I don’t often have enough time to finish them all in one day, first world problems!

Explodey dudes

You should by now have a feel for the fact this Destiny 2: Forsaken – Review has a positive theme. In the spirit of wanting to play the game I am going to cut this article off here, but watch for the next one as I experience more of the Forsaken.

One last thing…

Their claim in the weeks prior to the release of the Forsaken, was that they were going to make this game a hobby once again. To me that was a pretty bold statement. I had invested around 2,000 hours into D1 and barely broke 150 on D2. Until now it was missing something. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but I think the team at Bungie did, thankfully. I find myself, even after only a week, wanting (needing) to get on and play. That’s a feeling I haven’t had in over a year.

Well done Bungie, Activision and Vicarious Visions. You have once again  piqued my interest in an Epic adventure, with an Epic story and even more Epic gear for me to use while doing so!

Psst… My guardian could have a few more voice lines!

Osiris Returns Dec 5

The Destiny franchise is quickly approaching the status of Legend in the gaming world. Another step in that direction is the expansion Curse of Osiris for Destiny 2. Osiris returns on Dec 5, 2017 and it is unclear if he is friend or foe? In the trailer below you will see him fighting Vex, but in the story line from OG Destiny, Osiris is…. well… insane!

It appears that we are headed back to Mercury, in an attempt to stop the time travelling robots again!

If you were luck enough to make it to the Lighthouse in D1 you may have also discovered Osiris’ “lab”. In which was a non working portal and a various other items scattered around. I am curious to see if they work that into the new story line and even more curious to see if the developers have been listening to their audience as attentively as they did in D1.

Currently the player base is somewhat on the fence if they are going to continue to invest the amount of time into this franchise that they have in the past. Some of the “quality of life” upgrades they made for the “casual” player in D2 have taken away some of the allure for the semi-hard to hard-core players.

Weapon roles, armor roles and exotic hunting. All things that I myself got caught up in at times. Looking for that perfect role on the Palidrome or the right combination of stats to have a Tier 12 build in several armor sets! It is what kept some of us interested in the game long past it’s expiration date.

Don’t even get me started on the everyone gets a medal approach! It’s ruining our society and now a gaming community that I love! We need to fail in order to appreciate our success.

I digress….

I haven’t touched Destiny 2 since Iron Banner on PS4 and I have been working through the story line on PC since it’s launch. I still love the game and I hope that this expansion points us back in the right direction!

By the looks of the art for the Season pass expansion 2 is due to hit in the Spring of 2018. I am having a hard time discerning if the image is of a dead Ghost or of the Aegis… again… only Time will tell…

Yankees 99 to sport Destiny 2 Gear!

Baseball star Aaron Judge shared his own fandom during tonight’s game for the upcoming blockbuster Destiny 2.

As a fan of the game, and to express his excitement for its upcoming release, here is a closer look at the Destiny 2 themed cleats and batting gloves worn tonight by Aaron Judge, and others to be worn over the weekend: Link

Can’t wait to see him rock that Warlock Magic!

Destiny 2 Release Trailer

Today Bungie and Activision released the official Destiny 2 release trailer.

From Bungie / Activision:

Humanity has fallen. Villainous Dominus Ghaul (aka Gary) has arrived on Earth with his Red Legion army to lay claim to the power he believes he alone is worthy to wield. Rally with the remaining survivors and rise up to defeat Ghaul before all is lost.

Destiny 2 features a dramatic, cinematic story campaign, and a variety of activities for every type of gamer, including gameplay for solo, cooperative and competitive players with new places to explore and adventures to conquer. Destiny 2launches September 6th on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and will be available for PC on October 24 via Battle.net®, Blizzard Entertainment’s online gaming service.

We are super stoked for Destiny 2 to finally drop. However there are a few things that I have yet to understand, that I am hoping the story that everyone is raving about will answer. For example, after Gary kicks us off the edge of the Tower and has taken our light, how do we still have Ghosts? Where do we get our new abilities from? Why does Gary’s right hand man look like a Vogon?

Come on… tell me I am wrong!

Regardless of the Vogons making a guest appearance we are still, not so patiently awaiting the arrival of Destiny 2.

Oh ya… this trailer is probably one of the best game trailers we have ever seen!

We hope to see amongst the stars as we battle the Red Legion.

Keep an eye out for videos and articles as we get new information and as well we will be doing a full review of the Console vs PC versions of the game.

Thank you to Activision and Bungie for keeping us in the loop.
