How to Live Life Batman Style

Batman, aka Bruce Wayne is certainly a complex one when it comes to breaking down his character. While he can be dark and serious, he also possesses some pretty great traits that we can dig deep and incorporate into our own selves. No billion dollars or heartbreaking back story necessary! Here are three Batman characteristics we can all benefit from…

1. Batman is passionate and persistent when it comes to what he believes in
Let’s face it. When our favorite caped crusader gets his mind-set on something, he stops at nothing to complete the task at hand. While most of us aren’t going to be taking down the bad guys, we can channel this passionate and persistent attitude into our day-to-day lives for what we believe in. Do you have a cause that’s near and dear to you? Let’s say shelter pets or feeding hungry kids. Just imagine what you can do to help your favorite charity if you put forth just a fraction of that Batman spirit behind you! Is there a particular goal you’ve set for yourself? Persistence is everything so stay the course and never give up!

2. Batman has unwavering courage
Just about everything we’ve ever tried took courage. Starting a new job; Attending a networking event; Going to the gym for the first time; Asking your crush out for coffee. Lots and lots of courage needed for sure! Well if Batman can rush head on into danger without fear than I’m sure we can manage to find a little bit of that courage within ourselves to create the life we want and to be successful and happy. This is definitely the area I’ve needed to work on the most. I’ve been a bit of a scaredy cat a good part of my life. It’s taken a lot of practice but I’m getting much better at not letting fear be my nemesis anymore!

3. Batman takes great care of his physical self
Okay, I’ll be the first to say I’ll never be as buff as Batman or have the wicked ninja skills he possesses. What I do have is a strong desire to be a healthy person and feel great both inside and out. Batman could never accomplish all those daring feats and keep his city free from villains without his incredible strength and stamina. Why do you want to stay strong and be healthy? To have more fun with your friends and family; To accomplish a big fitness goal; To score better on next year’s annual physical. Whatever it is you know what you’ve got to do. Move that body more and make better food choices. Ask yourself, would Batman take a walk or just stay seated? Would Batman eat the junk food or the lean protein and vegetables? We know, we all know!

There you have it. Passion, persistence, courage and strength. We don’t need one cent of Bruce Wayne’s billions to bring these Batman characteristics into our own lives!

So tell me, who’s your favorite Superhero and why? Tweet me and let me know!

The Starter Zone: 3 Quests To Power Up A Healthy Mindset

Miranda-BluBy: Miranda Blu

Let’s face it. What goes on up in these complicated brains of ours can really dictate how our day/week/life is going to be. Well guess what… we have the power to take control of our brains and completely upgrade our lives. It’s all about our mindset.

We can have a positive mindset or a negative one. We can have a healthy mindset or an unhealthy one. Rebooting our mindset is the same as forming new habits (or breaking bad ones). It takes a little time. About three weeks ought to do it. But seriously folks, that’s nothing compared to the rest of our lives. After all, we have a lot of adventures to look forward to.

Here are three healthy quests to complete so you can give yourself a much deserved upgrade!

Quest #1: The Responsibility Reboot
The very first thing you’re going to have to master is taking responsibility for your own health and happiness. It’s up to you and only you. You cannot place this responsibility upon any friend, loved one, doctor, etc. It’s all on you my friend! It’s not as hard as you think… promise! Right now, declare it to yourself that as of this moment I will take control of my personal health and happiness and no one can stop me! Mwah ha ha. Okay, maybe leave out the diabolical laugh?!? Repeat this mantra daily until you get it down pat.

Experience points: 10,000

Quest #2: Live by the Prowess of Priority
The second thing you’ll need to master is prioritizing yourself. We have so many things we have to do and most of the time we take care of ourselves last. Or worse, we just run out of time and never get around to it. Do you have a smart phone? Of course you do! Set a reminder or calendar event for one thing every day that you can do just for yourself. Start small. Rome wasn’t built in a day after all! Book a 10 minute stretch session. Schedule a 15 minute after dinner walk. Something easy and doable that you will enjoy. Do it every day and make it stick. Before you know it the easy 10-15 minute activities will grow longer or you’ll find a way to add one or more additional small blasts of healthy “me time” into the day. This is a must!

Experience points: 15,000

Quest #3: Become User Friendly
Finally, you must embrace the positivity that’s all around you. It’s everywhere… really. Unfortunately, negativity slimes its way around us like the Blob all frickin’ day long! Enough! This is kind of a two-part quest. First, shut off news sources for most of the day. If something happens that we really need to know we’ll hear about it. Or, limit yourself to watching one 30-minute news program only and then move on to other things. Look for sources of “good news”. Google “good news sources” and you’ll find some. Second, become the source of positivity. Smile often, laugh as much as possible, commit random acts of kindness and keep an attitude of gratitude. Before you know it this “user friendly” way of being will just be who you are. It feels great. It will make you want to do more things to continue to feel great. Nice habit huh?

Experience points: 25,000

Practice these tips every day. You can start with one at a time and work your way through all the quests. Then…

Congratulations! You Leveled Up!

Be Kind While Gaming, It’s Good For Your Health

Miranda-BluBy: Miranda Blu

If you play a video game with a chat feature you’ve most likely experienced that moment at the end of a raid or mission where all of a sudden an onslaught of verbal abuse erupts onto you or the group with great fury. You think to yourself “geez, I was just trying to have some fun” or, you fire back in verbal retaliation. STOP THE MADNESS!

My husband coined a phrase a few years back that I love.

“Remember to be kind. You are special and worth the experience you are having, as is the person next to you.”
~ Odin Omen

That’s right… there’s a person on the other end of all those nasty words. Not a monitor or TV but a person with feelings.

Okay, we all know we shouldn’t behave this way because it’s not nice and we should treat people the way we want to be treated. Right? (please no cricket sounds!) Good, we’re on the same page. There’s another reason why we should be kind while gaming. Our health! All that anger really takes a toll on our minds and bodies.

It’s physically damaging to our hearts
It can weaken our immune system
It can increase anxiety and depression
It can harm our lungs

Those all sounds like bummers to me! Before lashing out at another player or group, try to stop yourself for 10 seconds. Take a deep breath. Remember why you’re playing in the first place. To have FUN. 🙂 Remember that one person or team isn’t going to win every single time. And that’s okay!

Try this instead. Type “great game, we’ll get ’em next time” or “wow, tough match but it was fun”. Whatever works for your game, just make it nice. Give it a try. See how different you feel. It probably feels good huh? Great, because you are special and worth the experience you are having!

Happy gaming!
