If I have done one thing right as a father, it is introducing my kids to the “retro” gaming world. Or as I like to call it, the games I played as a kid. Every time we pull out the old NES or SNES because the kids saw something cool on YouTube, the kids make fun of me and complain about not having any save function on the games to keep their progress.
The world of gaming sure has changed, and today we find ourselves with more and more need for storage. Whether it be cloud or local the shear size of gaming today is sometimes scary.
Don’t worry though, the folks at WD have been kind enough, over the years, to continue to develop some of the best storage hardware on the planet. They are now even making console specific products. Below is a list of the best gaming options that WD has to offer.
I personally run a WD_BLACK P50 Game Drive SSD, and have never experienced a problem and the load time vs the on board HD in my console is ridiculously fast!
Coming in at $154.99 USD for 500Gb, this is a bullet proof option for the gaming enthusiast. Click on the image to check out the technical specs.
As I mentioned before, WD is now heading into console specific territory with a Nintendo licensed drive. Available in three sizes, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.
These Nintendo licensed SD cards are not only backed by the WD quality, they look sweet too and you won’t have to spend any of those gold coins we all covet with the $54.99 USD top end for the 256GB card.
Now for the cream of the crop!
If you are a hardcore gamer, this drive is for you, hands down, no questions asked!
This NVMe drive is so fast that I don’t even have time for a bio break during loading screens anymore. This is a must have for anyone building a system for gaming. Best value on these bad boys comes in the 1TB size with a $134.99 USD price tag, and yes I had to check the price twice.
There are quite a few more options on the WD website that I encourage you to take a look at. Dad will love you for it!
The idea behind the 2 new controller lines is an upgrade to the internal parts of the new PS4 controllers, giving the external components more accurate and faster response times.
First we took a look at the new Infinity 4PS Pro line. The PRO line has all of the things that we have come to love about SCUF. Including the military grade grip, easily changeable thumb sticks using the Infinity Ring and Lock System, magnetic remapping technology and the SCUF Trigger Systems. What didn’t we mention?
The SCUF paddle system. The new PRO paddle system has been completely updated from the standard paddles. The new paddles are recessed into the back of the controller body, they have upgraded the switch and circuit board hardware and the paddles are now removable!
I am now very jealous that I was not aware of this incoming product seeing as I just bought my SCUF.
This next one I am not so sure about. Having never been a fan of the XBox style of controller. But like I always say to my kids, “be sure to try everything once, and then second time just in case!”
So I will get my hands on the other new line, the SCUFIMPACT before passing judgement!
The biggest difference between the two new lines, as you can see, is the design of the controller itself. The more robust design of the IMPACT also allows for a 4 paddle system on the back.

In epic fashion Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S8 line.
I have been an avid Samsung Mobile user for about 4 years now. I started with the Galaxy Note 3 and then moved to the Note 4. I even managed to convince my whole office to convert from Blackberry to Samsung, it was more difficult than you could imagine.
We have had a great experience with the Samsung line, with the exception of the current state of my Note 4 in which I am having huge power consumption issues… I digress…
The rest of the office is successfully running on Note 3s, S6s and S7s. So you can imagine my excitement to see the new Galaxy 8 models being debuted today. I am hoping to get my hands on one soon to do a physical review. For now we will to go on what I know from the white papers.

Fast and wireless charging capabilities
One of the things that caught my attention in the release event was the new Samsung Digital Assistant, Bixby. A seemingly intelligent program, that will learn your habits and routines and apparently bring the things you need to the forefront for ease of access. Including but not limited to, its image recognition technology. See something you like, whip out Bixby and it will tell you what it is and where to get it. I don’t know if this is cool, or scary!?
Then there is beyond the typical phone experience. The Galaxy 8 and 8+ are the brains behind the GearVR w/ Controller powered by Oculus.
From the press release:
The new controller enables combined motion sensors, touchpad controls and a dedicated trigger, offering an even more intuitive, convenient and expressive way to interact and immerse in Gear VR. The new smartphones will also connect to the new Gear 360, capable of capturing up to 4K 360-degree videos, 15MP photos and 2K live streaming.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. I am intrigued to see how No Man’s Sky plays on this device. It is after all the game used in the promo video.
Here is the Availability blurb from the press release:

Batman, aka Bruce Wayne is certainly a complex one when it comes to breaking down his character. While he can be dark and serious, he also possesses some pretty great traits that we can dig deep and incorporate into our own selves. No billion dollars or heartbreaking back story necessary! Here are three Batman characteristics we can all benefit from…
1. Batman is passionate and persistent when it comes to what he believes in
Let’s face it. When our favorite caped crusader gets his mind-set on something, he stops at nothing to complete the task at hand. While most of us aren’t going to be taking down the bad guys, we can channel this passionate and persistent attitude into our day-to-day lives for what we believe in. Do you have a cause that’s near and dear to you? Let’s say shelter pets or feeding hungry kids. Just imagine what you can do to help your favorite charity if you put forth just a fraction of that Batman spirit behind you! Is there a particular goal you’ve set for yourself? Persistence is everything so stay the course and never give up!
2. Batman has unwavering courage
Just about everything we’ve ever tried took courage. Starting a new job; Attending a networking event; Going to the gym for the first time; Asking your crush out for coffee. Lots and lots of courage needed for sure! Well if Batman can rush head on into danger without fear than I’m sure we can manage to find a little bit of that courage within ourselves to create the life we want and to be successful and happy. This is definitely the area I’ve needed to work on the most. I’ve been a bit of a scaredy cat a good part of my life. It’s taken a lot of practice but I’m getting much better at not letting fear be my nemesis anymore!
3. Batman takes great care of his physical self
Okay, I’ll be the first to say I’ll never be as buff as Batman or have the wicked ninja skills he possesses. What I do have is a strong desire to be a healthy person and feel great both inside and out. Batman could never accomplish all those daring feats and keep his city free from villains without his incredible strength and stamina. Why do you want to stay strong and be healthy? To have more fun with your friends and family; To accomplish a big fitness goal; To score better on next year’s annual physical. Whatever it is you know what you’ve got to do. Move that body more and make better food choices. Ask yourself, would Batman take a walk or just stay seated? Would Batman eat the junk food or the lean protein and vegetables? We know, we all know!
There you have it. Passion, persistence, courage and strength. We don’t need one cent of Bruce Wayne’s billions to bring these Batman characteristics into our own lives!
So tell me, who’s your favorite Superhero and why? Tweet me and let me know!
Let’s face it, winning a battle, completing a quest, or slaying the dragon often comes down to whether we selected the right weapon. The same is true for our health. We all know that portion control is a big factor in our fight to stay slim or drop some unwanted weight. BUT, it can be easier said than done if we don’t choose the right weapon!
Here are a handful of weapons, er, tools you need in your arsenal to win your calorie battle.
1. Smaller plates: I started here years ago, and it was the best thing ever for helping me eat less, feel satisfied and keep the portions in check. I mean, a cup of spaghetti on a large dinner plate looks pitiful. But, a cup of spaghetti on a salad plate looks like a nice serving of yummy, comforting pasta! The smaller the plate, the less food you can put on it, plus it fools our eyes into thinking we’re eating more that we are! Give it a try!
2. Small containers: I keep a nice supply of small containers such as condiment cups, small sundae cups, and plastic cups with lids around. Scoop that ice cream into a small sundae cup instead of a bowl. You can obviously fit a lot less of it in there so you won’t overdo it. Small condiment cups are great for nuts, seeds, um, chocolate chips. And the small plastic storage containers with lids make it easy to pack the perfect lunchbox.
3. Baby spoons: Yes, you’re reading that correctly! Okay, perhaps this tip is more for the gals out there. Eat your dessert with a baby spoon! I do this all the time. Not only does the kid in me love it but I can take 20 bites of ice cream or pudding with a baby spoon or 6 bites with a regular spoon. I vote for more bites! I’m all about savoring and enjoying my treats. This is a sure-fire method to help me do that!
4. Measuring cups and spoons: We need these for cooking but they also come in handy when you’re learning proper food portions. Use them for all your food servings for about a week or two. After that you’ll be able to eyeball your portions sizes better.
I use each one of these weapons every day to keep me on track. I eat tons of healthy foods and plenty of naughty foods I love thanks to keeping the portions where they should be.
Give these weapons a try. Which one is your favorite? Do you have your own secret weapon for staying healthy? I’d love to hear about it!
