RadioPress Reads – Comics – Batgirl, MoonKnight and Hellcat
This week of comics didn’t have too much in the way of new and exciting, but there were a few notable issues we opened up and one particular story I decided should be revisited. Enjoy RPG Reads July 22.
I have to say, this Rebirth event has been picking up and in a great way, this doesn’t exclude in anyway the Batgirl comic I was lucky enough to flip through today. Barbara Gordon, best known as Batgirl and then as the ultra intelligent all-seeing Oracle, is back. With a successful surgery and rehabilitation to help her regain use of her legs again, she has donned the Batgirl costume once more to get out and fight crime. Interestingly enough, her first major bust sets her on a course that she never thought would be possible. Looking for Oracle, except this person isn’t her, and they are giving information to crime lords and thugs around Gotham. With this all in mind she looks to reform The Birds of Prey and calls in the help of Black Canary to assist in hunting down the impostors. This story quickly gets interesting as we run into the Huntress, an ex-spyral agent (see Grayson) who is out for vengeance and fails Bargirl’s plans. The great thing about this comic is really the story and the connect you might already have with Barbara as both Batgirl and Oracle, if you are a fan previously, this lives up to the name, and if you are a new fan it is entertaining enough for you to want to read more and wait month over month for a new issue. This story has spunk and is a great read for anyone wanting to get to know these fantastic ladies.
Patsy Walker, a street level hero turned big time and then retired to street level again. Patsy, or Hellcat as some know her as, has been working as a legal aide to Jennifer Walters a.k.a. She-Hulk, but if you’ve been reading up on Civil War 2 you’ll know that She-Hulk is in some seriously bad condition right now after a battle with Thanos has left her bed ridden at the Triskellion. This whole issue is about Patsy finding out that her best friend is near death and she didn’t know, now she and her other superhero friends are coming together and trying to come to terms with the situation. It is very real, its painful and very emotional but like most groups of friends they pull together to help with Jen’s outstanding court cases and figure out a way to deal with the grief. Anyone who might have been through a similar scenario can connect with this issue on a completely different level, I think its why I took to it so instantly. Hellcat and her crew of misfits make this whole thing fun wit ha serious note of love and care towards an unexpected accident. I haven’t even read this comic from the beginning and I’m going to say if you read only one issue of this, make it this one, it’s very special in its own right.
Remember a while back when I got really excited about MoonKnight’s new story and then I never reviewed it again? Well, I came back and it did not disappoint. This book has a very similar feel to Hercules story in Gods Of War, only Moon Knight has some serious D.I.D. issues and I can’t seem to tell if hes just seeing things or if weird celestial beings are truly invading his world. This is another story that is so well written and so much of a mind bend that it’s really hard to put down. One moment you have Moon Knight and the reader believing that he is in one place, the next you have them believing he is in another. Is he seeing visions of a possible future or is he just intensely mad? All of this plays into an intense and intricate story that you can’t really figure out yet, which is great because we’re only 4 issues in. If you want to think, and have something that will drive you batty figuring out the twist for a long time, this is your story. I love it, and I just want to know more, but I’m also so confused and it’s got me coming back.http://radiopressgaming.com/2016/07/rpg-reads-july-22/http://radiopressgaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/GalleryComics_1920x1080_20160720_BG_BOP_Reb_1_573f66d40fd023.28641145-960x540.jpghttp://radiopressgaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/GalleryComics_1920x1080_20160720_BG_BOP_Reb_1_573f66d40fd023.28641145-150x150.jpgComicsLiteratureBarbara Gordon,Batgirl,Hellcat,MoonKight,Patsy WalkerThis week of comics didn't have too much in the way of new and exciting, but there were a few notable issues we opened up and one particular story I decided should be revisited.
