Captain America: Steve Rogers #2

Following last month’s bomb drop where Steve Rogers pledges, his allegiance to Hydra, we get the second issue follow up with the real reasons behind this sudden and unexpected change.  This issue delves into the mysterious Kubik and the range of her powers as an entity created from the shattering of the cosmic cube.  Without spoiling too much, Red Skull is once again behind this little side swap but you’ll need to read to find out how he orchestrated this whole thing.  I might have been one of very few people excited for this change of Cap’s allegiance but after reading this issue, I almost feel cheated.  It’s almost as though there can’t be a good and solid reason for someone to legitimately make a change to a criminal organization because it makes sense.  Maybe as a fan, who would love to see these characters evolve in such a way that they make hard choices like this, I’m asking too much.  Maybe Marvel’s writers aren’t committing enough?  I don’t know but what I can say, is that the twist back and the writing of it, still kept me engaged.  I’m still pretty salty about the whole thing, but damn is this comic fun to read, and it’s smart to boot!

Silk #9

Dear Cindy Moon, what is wrong with you?  Actually, let’s pretend I didn’t ask that.  Cindy has been through some shit in the last little while.  Her Spider-Gwen universe self has only been wreaking havoc for two solid months, destroying her reputation faster than Taylor Swift destroyers her own relationships.  Cindy is at odds and trying to find her place in the world again, unfortunately for our fantastic heroine she has decided to look for help in non-other than the Black Cat herself.  This should prove to be an interesting undertaking as Cindy starts to look for places she belongs, but I can guarantee it’ll soon turn out bad if she’s working with the criminals.  As always Silk proves to be entertaining and the stories keep the reader engaged, this new arc definitely looks to expand and grow the character so keep an eye on it.

Captain Marvel #6

Captain Marvel is diving into Civil war after the Alpha Flight space station is wrecked by an alien force looking to wipe out anything associated with the Kree.  This part of the story starts before Civil War II #1 that we read a month back, it gives us a glimpse into the life she is still leading as Commander of Alpha flight and the issues she faces having 100s of people to look after while being Earth’s first line of defense.  As always, Captain Marvel is a hero that inspires but like many of the most notable, she struggles with her own inner monologue and the things that she values most.  She might be super powered but she’s human and in the end that makes every one of her reads fun.  If you’ve been reading the Civil War comics so far, you’ll know that what’s to come will shape her future in a way that none of us will expect.  Keep an eye on this as it should prove to be a great subplot in the over-all Civil War story.

Hot Damn

Have you ever wondered what Hell is really like?  Like really?  What happens to us when we die if we are bound for the torturous underworld?  Hot Damn gives us a glimpse into the afterlife with Teddy, a man whose life was defined by his addiction to drugs, alcohol and all around debauchery.  Bunking with a demon and attending Penance Therapy, the sinner’s version of AA, Hell is drastically different than we assumed.  Poor Ted is learning that even if he ended up in Heaven, his afterlife would still be Hell, but with a better view.  I can’t wrap my head around what I’m reading but it is seriously entertaining.  This is supposed to be a Fantasy Horror genre but I’m thinking Comedy needs to be looped in here too.  It might be a little odd but this is a great read so far.  If you’re into the weird stuff, grab a lamp and let’s go farther down the rabbit hole, because Hot Damn is really fun.
