RadioPress Reads – Comics – Witches, Wonders and Fury
This week in comics our heroes are being set up to take sides in a new short story line up, Civil War 2 Choosing Sides, Wonder Woman returns to start the subplot “Lies” and we get one more fantastic issue of Gwenpoole! Enjoy this weeks RPG Reads June 23.
This Wonder Woman plot takes us to a place we’ve never been before, and that is the past of Diana Prince. While she is struggling in “Rebirth” to figure out her present and why the lasso of truth isn’t working, we are presented with a side story of its own that provides context into how she arrived at this juncture through previous events. I’ve always enjoyed Wonder Woman and her stories and this visit to days past has me interested. She has lost her way and is looking for help back home, but her only aide is within an ancient Goddess with whom her people are at odds with. As I mentioned with Rebirth, since this is in the same story universe and they play together really well, I’ll be keeping this in my sights as so far this has been a fun read.
I was really excited to see this on the list for today, if you’ve been following my reads, you know that we left Gwenpoole with Batroc the leaper finding out she isn’t superpowered and is a total hazard to M.O.D.O.K.’s team of mercs. This issue brings her more in tune with the fact that she really does not belong in the comic universe but she is finding that her comic knowledge is keeping her in Batroc’s good graces. Because she doesn’t exist in this world, she calls in a favor from a certain sorcerer to move her essence or total existence from our world to the comic world, just so she can be paid legitimately by M.O.D.O.K. Honestly, this comic continues to have so much heart and honesty, its really hard to put down and with how this ended, with all of Gwenpoole’s life being very plain and in M.O.D.O.K’s sight, the next issue should prove to be exciting. Let’s just say he things she is too normal and might want her dead for time wasted. I love this comic, you should take time to love it too!
This is a really interesting concept! With all of the Civil War 2 shenanigans going on, its really neat to have a comic that is 24 pages but all short stories. This issue starts off with Nick Fury on assignment for Maria Hill, then jumps to Thrasher helping the large group of heroes banish the Celestial being from Civil War 2 #1. Its great to be able to see heroes that might not get a ton light in these events get something. This impacted the whole Marvel Universe in the first Civil War, but not make smaller heroes were shown to be impacted, this time we are getting a new approach and a proper visual on who is effected and how. I’ll be keeping an eye on this one especially since Nick Fury’s story is continued through the next issue.
This was pretty unexpected. Scarlet Witch has removed herself from the Avengers and bought a house in a high rise in New York to attempt to right the wrongs of her past and be solo hero. As we venture into her life we see her talking to a ghost, someone named Agatha, this seems to be her sidekick of sorts and the person who will be giving her ideas in the future. Everyone needs a sidekick, even if they’re dead right? Later in the issue we see her follow some clues regarding weird witchcraft like occurrences in the city, which brings her to the NYPD. From there it becomes very supernatural detective Scarlet Witch, and this I am ok with. I like having a female hero who hasn’t had much time doing their own thing, working an intelligent thought provoking angle even if it has to do with mystics and witch craft. This was just all sorts of fun. Now to be fair, today’s issue was not the first but as is customary for me, I went back to read the first issue this time since I felt it was warranted. I also managed to read the first three issues tonight without pause so I’d say I’m going to keep following this, you might want to give it a shot too.http://radiopressgaming.com/2016/06/rpg-reads-june-23/http://radiopressgaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/June22-960x480.jpghttp://radiopressgaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/June22-150x150.jpgComicsLiteratureCivil War 2 Sides,Gwenpoole,Scarlet Witch,Wonder WomanThis week in comics our heroes are being set up to take sides in a new short story line up, Civil War 2 Choosing Sides, Wonder Woman returns to start the subplot 'Lies' and we get one more fantastic issue of Gwenpoole!
