About 6 years ago I ran into a show called Sherlock. Being a fan of Sherlock Holmes, this new rendition of the old stories grabbed my attention quickly. I had never heard of Benedict Cumberbatch, or Martin Freeman, at the time, but let me tell you even just writing this article I get goosebumps thinking of their performances as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. The excitement I had when I found out that Benedict was going to play the Supreme Sorcerer, Doctor Strange was un-tangable. In my humble opinion the trailer does not do the character justice. It makes him out to be a bit of a scrub, which may be true at some point, however in a 2 hour feature film I feel it should really be a small part of the story.

As the Supreme Sorcerer, Dr. Stephen Strange is the mightiest magician in the cosmos! The protector of our world! They don’t really portray any of that in the trailer. Which makes me ask the question: Is this an origin story? Will we learn where Dr. Strange comes from and why he is who he is, but not really see him in action until Doctor Strange: The Supreme Sorcerer? Hopefully they mix in the right amount of wild action and magic with the drama of the making of Doctor Strange.

I know they will release a half dozen more sequences that will hopefully show just enough of the “good stuff” to draw in the masses and give them the funds they will need to make #2. The star studded cast will draw a fair number of ‘fans’ and Mr. Cumberbatch himself has become quite the phenom and I expect nothing short of a phenomenal performance from him.

Could Benedict Cumberbatch be the first to win an Oscar for his role as a Superhero? I hope to find out in November of this year when the movie releases.
