Iron Orange Intra Clan War
In A Slow Moving Destiverse One Clan Has Made A Bright Spot
The Destiny clan DoD Iron Orange has done something that we have never seen before. One of their members has written a script that pulls information from the Bungie API and compiles it into stats that allowed him to divide the clan into two “equal” groups. Affectionately named Iron and Orange, the groups have then been divided into fireteams of 6. Essentially they have created their own “new” content that revolves around this month’s Iron Banner week. They are calling the Iron vs Orange Intra Clan War. While the system is still in beta Dad2cl3 says “Forgive any hiccups as we are live testing this baby. Hopefully next time around we will have mini games as well!”
The clan found themselves in a bit of a lull with the lack of new content in the Destiverse. Founding member Zombwie said “We were finding members becoming inactive for longer periods of time, so we decided that the clan needed some type of rallying point!” So (just like Slick’s bedroom) they decided to spice things up a bit, instead of using swings and leather they used PHP and HTML! The results will be updated daily on their website. Over the past year IO has found themselves near or at the top of the leader board in www.destinyclanwars.com, often pitting themselves against other DoD clans with wagers ranging from wearing a specific emblem for the rest of the month to composing and singing a song (cough, cough DoD Foxtrot). This will bring the competition to the next level. The beta only had room for 72 players, which leaves well over 100 members watching from the outside. Though not the ideal situation they had to cut it off somewhere and Dad2cl3 felt that 72 was a good audience for the beta.
A couple of the important features to mention are;
- The teams are virtual. So even if during their busy Dad lives they are not able to hook up with their specific Fireteam and or even another Iron Orange member, they will still be earning points towards the total. Here is a list of the modifiers for this time around.
- Dad2cl3 built a Slack (the messaging program they use for their clan communications) integration so that signing up for the event was a “simple” as typing /io volunteer into the message bar.
The modifiers will be applied to the score received for each match. The decision to keep it simple for scoring this time around was to see how the Bungie API interface plus all of the custom data would be handled and in an effort to do much more with this system they will be looking to automate the process.
What do they get from all of this you ask. Well if you could see the Slack chatter going on right now you would understand that bragging rights are a giant thing in Iron Orange. The Ultimate Guardian to finish first will have just that, the Ultimate bragging rights, plus Ice Cream, and Lobsters Nipple Clamps.
Watch the Iron Orange Twitter account, most of the members have twitter so keep an eye out for the #IOClanWar to keep you up to date!
